The Best Pet Hair Resistant Clothes for Dog and Cat Owners
Living with pets means always finding fur in unexpected places—your couch, your floor, and definitely your clothes. If you’re tired of lint rolling yourself every time you leave the house, it’s time to explore the world of pet hair resistant clothes. From the fabrics that repel hair to the brands making stylish, fur-fighting apparel, this guide will help you dress smarter (and cleaner) without sacrificing comfort.
Pet Hair Resistant Fabric: What Works and What Doesn’t
Not all fabrics are created equal when it comes to repelling pet hair. The key lies in the weave, texture, and static properties. A good rule of thumb, specifically, is to remember that what makes a pet hair resistant fabric is really its weave—get to know which fabrics have tighter weave (ie., denim) and which ones have—well, the opposite! (ie., wool.)
💡 Hot Tip: One thing we learned in our research on fabric that repels dog hair and cat hair, was that fabric made of 75% polyester and 25% LYCRA® (AKA Elastane or Spandex) seemed to be very pet hair resistant.
When shopping for clothing—especially leggings or other “athletic” or leisure items, always check the fabric.
If it’s 75% polyester and 25% LYCRA®, Spandex, or Elastane (or some combination of those three), you should be good. You can also test blends like 80% polyester and 20% LYCRA®, Spandex, or Elastane.
Best Fabrics for Repelling Dog and Cat Hair
Fabric | Why It Works |
---|---|
Polyester | Tight weave, smooth texture, affordable |
Nylon | Lightweight, slick surface, low static |
Leather & Pleather | Hair doesn't cling, easy to wipe clean |
Silk & Satin | Smooth, non-cling surface, but delicate |
Denim | Tight weave cotton, durable, hair shakes off easily |
75% Polyester / 25% LYCRA, Spandex, or Elastane blend | Common in athletic and leisure clothing like leggings, but always check the lable |
Worst Fabrics for Repelling Dog and Cat Hair
Fabric | Why It’s a Problem |
---|---|
Fleece | Traps hair in fibers, difficult to clean |
Wool | Natural static and fuzzy texture attract hair |
Linen | Loose weave, easy for hair to embed |
Ribbed Knits | Textured surface holds onto fur |
Stretchy Rayon | Tends to hold static, hair clings easily |
How to Keep Pet Hair Off of Clothes

- Brush your pet regularly. Less loose hair means less shedding. (We recommend the best-selling Swihauk brush for everyday use, or the FURminator for double-coated dogs—just take care not to use the FURminator every day, or on shorter-haired pets, since it can irritate the skin when used improperly.)
- Wear smooth fabrics around your pets. Consider changing into pet-friendly outfits at home.
- Use anti-static sprays or homemade solutions. These reduce the magnetic effect of static. Homemade is best (and we have a recipe for you below) but if you want to take it a step up, try Bounce anti-static spray (which de-wrinkles as well) or StaticGuard spray.
- Run clothes through the dryer with a dryer sheet before washing. This helps loosen hair and collect it in the lint trap. (We recommend Bounce dryer sheets for pets. Wool dryer balls also seem to work for us, but we’ve read mixed reviews.)
- Keep a lint roller near your entryway. Do a quick check before heading out. This extra-sticky one from Scotch-Brite is great since it can be used on clothes, furniture, or anywhere else pet hair is a problem.
How to Remove Pet Hair from Clothes
Before you wash:
- Use a lint roller or rubber glove to remove surface hair.
- Shake clothes outside to dislodge loose fur.
In the wash:
- Add ½ cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle.
- Use wool dryer balls or dryer sheets.
- Wash hairy clothes separately.

Pet Hair Repellent Spray
Using a spray can reduce static cling and make it easier to brush or wipe off hair from your clothes. Look for:
- Static Guard
- Downy Wrinkle Release – not made for pets, but some pet parents swear by it
- DIY spray (see below)
Homemade Anti-Static Spray for Pets
- 2 tablespoons of fabric softener
- 1 cup of water
- Optional: 1 drop of pet-safe essential oil (like lavender)
Shake in a spray bottle and lightly mist clothing or upholstery. Let dry fully before your pet comes in contact.
Where to Shop for Pet Hair Resistant Clothes

Finding the right fabrics is one thing—finding the right clothes made from those fabrics is another.
We scoured Reddit and other online forums and threads, and found several brands people regularly talked about when recommending pet hair resistant clothes, along with a few specific items. At the end of the day, the brand doesn’t matter so much as the fabric itself, but we hope this will at least give you a bit of a starting point.
Here are some recommendations, and quotes from the folks who recommended them!
Fabletics

Their leggings and joggers, and the men’s Fundamental Pant in particular (Reddit-recommended), are made with smooth, slick materials that repel pet hair surprisingly well.
“They’re one of the few brands where my black leggings actually stay black—even with two golden retrievers in the house.”
H&M (Activewear & Divided Lines)
Budget-friendly options that use polyester blends with tight weaves—great for keeping pet hair at bay. Their activewear line in particular has a solid reputation in pet parent forums.
“I’ve been sticking to H&M Divided sweaters because they somehow repel fur better than anything else I own.”
💡Note: For the Activewear line, try to find items that are 75% polyester and 25% spandex or something similar to spandex (ie., LYCRA)—if not this exact ratio, then somewhere around there. For the H&M’s Divided line, on our research, many of the sweaters were simply 100% cotton which can repel pet hair if the weave is tight enough. Examine photos closely when shopping online—if the sweater looks extra soft and fuzzy, it might be a no-go. If it looks pretty smooth, go ahead and buy it and give it a test. Bonus points if you can find tops and sweaters that are more than 50% polyester.
Patagonia
The Nano Puff jackets and vests are legendary for their slick, hair-repellent texture. Great for layering without collecting fur.
“My Patagonia Nano Puff doesn’t have a single hair on it while everything else needs multiple lintings.”

Lululemon
Options like the Adapted State Joggers, Fast & Free Tights, and Base Pace Tights use proprietary blends like Luxstreme or Nulux, which resist hair fairly well while staying breathable.
“Hair can stick a little, but most of it falls off as I move around.”
💡Note: Lululemon is known for their proprietary fabric blends, hence the pricetag. If you can afford Lululemon, great—you’ll have some pet hair resistant clothing that will also surely last a lifetime. If this is out of your range, focus on that 75% polyester blend, with 25% being spandex, or some other slick or stretchy material. Not all are made alike, so sometimes you have to do some testing with return-friendly stores to get it right.
Athleta
The Salutation and Rainier tights are known to do well in pet households, plus they’re comfortable and durable.
“They hold up great in a two-dog household, and the fabric stays slick.”
⚠️Note: At the time of this writing, the Salutation and Ranier tights were hard to find. For convenience, here are some leggings and pants from Amazon that are 75% polyester and 25% LYCRA® or Elastane, that should have the same feel as the Athleta ones, more or less:

- Bonus: LUSHENUNI men’s pants; these are 75% poly and 25% spandex and look like good work pants, but we haven’t tested them yet! | Check Price
Duluth Trading Co.
Look into the Flexpedition Pants—nylon-spandex blend with a soft inner layer. Lightweight but hair-resistant.
“Pet hair doesn’t stick to them at all.”
💡Tip: The Flexpedition Pants from Duluth are about 89% Nylon and 11% spandex. Here are some pants from Amazon that are almost exactly the same pet hair resistant fabric makeup:

- Libin Women’s Golf Pant | Check Price Now
Our favorite thing about these is that while they say “hiking” and “golf,” of course you can wear them anytime, and they may even go with a nice business casual work outfit.
Levi’s

Good-quality denim (especially in their premium line) naturally resists pet hair. Look for 100% cotton or tight cotton blends.
“My Levi’s jeans never look hairy, even with a chow mix around.”
💡Tip: Levi’s is a favorite due to quality, but most denim material is fairly pet hair resistant, so go with your favorite denim brands.
Here are some Levi’s pet hair resistant jeans we love, almost all of which also come in Big & Tall and Plus sizes (and all of which are pictured above). Better yet, at the time of this writing, almost all of these were under $50.

Halara
Their Patitoff™ Pet Hair Resistant Leggings are made specifically for pet owners—budget-friendly and high performance.
“Affordable and truly hair-repelling. I was shocked at how clean they stay.”
💡The Patitoff™ leggings are 77% nylon, with the remainder being Elastane (similar to Spandex or LYCRA). Try the HeyNuts Yoga Leggings—the makeup of this fabric is pretty similar, though Halara says their fabric, similar to LuluLemon’s, patented. Still worth a try!
Loyalty Pet Products
Another favorite in the pet grooming world—their Grooming Leggings were made with fur-covered workdays in mind. And no, you don’t need to be a groomer to buy these!
“I have a constantly shedding golden mix, and the hair never sticks.”
Satin Sleepwear or Lounge Sets

No brand in particular, but satin pajama sets or lounge robes are great for indoor pet snuggles without hair transfer.
“I wear satin PJs at home, and I never have any hair on me.”
Here are some the satin pajamas listed above, and almost all of them come in dozens of colors and patterns!

Dog Hair Resistant Leggings
If there’s one pet hair problem almost everyone complains about, it’s leggings. Thankfully, some brands are fighting back.
Media Luna
MEDIA LUNA Pet Hair Resistant Leggings are some favorites of ours designed with a slick outer surface to prevent hair from sticking, and stretchy enough for any activity.
However, recall that the key with dog and cat hair resistant leggings is the fabric makeup, so look for that mix of about 70% polyester or nylon with about 30% spandex or another “stretchy” material.
We already recommended these, but here they are again, just in case!
